Meet the Team

PI: Dr. Uriel Menalled

I am an agroecologist dedicated to understanding how to use ecological concepts for the design of sustainable cropping systems. I’m particularly interested in how relationships among species drive competition and coexistence, and how these dynamics can be harnessed to improve resilience to extreme climate events.

At the same time, I believe that sustainable agricultural systems cannot be designed solely through ecology. My work incorporates a social science component, which seeks to engage with farmers to learn about what motivates them, what barriers they face, and how their insights can shape the direction of research. Science becomes most powerful when it is co-created with the people whose lives and livelihoods it affects.
